The display only shows a correct pressure if the »back pressure«
of the residual pressure retaining valve is overcome. The »back
pressure« is at approximately 3.5 bar. The air suspension strut is
filled with enough gas when the pressure reaches 3.5 to 4.5 bar.
– Make sure pressure does not exceed 4.5 bar when filling.
– Disconnect the Air Suspension Strut Charger - VAS6231- from
the Air Spring Strut Adapter - T10157/1- . When doing this, gas
will escape at a pressure greater than 3.5 bar.
Minimum pressure is now reestablished. Suspension strut (air
suspension) can be removed from packaging.
– After installation, first drive the vehicle at high ride height and
then at normal ride height. Repeat this sequence once more.
By moving the vehicle lever heights twice, the majority of the gas
is exchanged with filtered air from the air supply motor.
– Suspension strut (air suspension), installing, refer to

page 60 .
4.4 Air Suspension Strut, Repair Informa‐
tion
If shock absorbers leak, replace suspension strut (air suspension)
completely because shock absorber oil can damage the boot, re‐
fer to -Item 4- ⇒ Item 4 (page 69) .
Suspension strut (air suspension) must not be rotated when it is
not pressurized. There is the danger that the boot inside the sus‐
pension strut (air suspension) could be damaged by kinking or
folding.
For problem-free and successful suspension strut (air suspen‐
sion) repairs, the greatest care and cleanliness possible and tools
that function properly are important requirements. Understanda‐
bly, general safety guidelines apply when performing repairs.
A series of applicable general notes for individual repair proce‐
dures - otherwise listed several times at many points in the repair
manual - has been collected here. They apply to suspension strut
(air suspension) repairs.
