– Make sure that lever on pressure gauge stands in position
-2-.
– Install the air filter, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 23 .
– Start the engine and turn the steering wheel 10 times from one
stop to the other.
– Switch off the ignition. Add hydraulic fluid if necessary.
Caution
Excessive pressure will damage the power steering pump.
♦ Pressure gauge shut-off valve must not remained closed
longer than 10 seconds during this test.
– Start the engine and let it run in idle.
Note
♦
Have a second technician observe the pump pressure while
starting the engine because the high pressure is attained when
starting.
♦
Because pressure falls over the course of the test, the highest
pressure shown is the decisive measurement.
– Move the lever on the pressure gauge to position -1- for max‐
imum 10 seconds and read the specified value.
Caution
Excessive pressure will damage the power steering pump.
♦ Pressure gauge shut-off valve must not remained closed
longer than 10 seconds during this test.
• Specified value: 110 to 128 bar.
If the specified value is not reached, replace the power steering
pump.
– Replace the power steering pump, refer to ⇒ page 388 .
– Turn off the ignition.
Install in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:
• Torque specification; refer to ⇒ page 378 .
– Install the air filter, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 23 .
– Install the fuel filter, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 20 .
– Check power steering fluid level, refer to ⇒ page 310 .
– Bleed steering system ⇒ page 311 .
– Check steering system for proper seal ⇒ page 312 .
– Install noise insulation ⇒ Rep. Gr. 66 .
– Deactivate the vehicle lift mode, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 43 .
