5.4.5.3 Operation 46. Changing oil in the transmission and brake housings
Before changing the oil, warm up the transmission to normal operating temperature by driv-
ing the tractor for five to fifteen minutes, depending on the ambient temperature.
Place the tractor on a level flat ground. The engine must be off. Engage the parking brake
and block the wheels from moving at the front and at the back with wheel chocks to prevent spon-
taneous movement of the tractor.
Changing the oil in the brake housings is carried out simultaneously with the operation of
changing the oil in the transmission. It is necessary to change the oil in the right and left brake
housings.
To change the oil in right brake housing 3 (figure 5.4.46), do the following:
- unscrew drain plug 2 and drain the oil from the brake housing, unscrew check-filler plug 4;
- put back and tighten drain plug 2;
- fill in fresh oil through the opening of check-filler plug 4 to the level of the lower edge of the
opening of plug 4;
- put in place and tighten check-filler plug 4.
Next, change the oil in the left brake housing in the same way.
To change the oil in the transmission, do the following:
- unscrew drain plug 1 (figure 5.4.46) from the rear axle housing and drain plug 6 from the
magnetic filter, drain the oil into a special container for used oil;
- put back drain plugs 1 and 6;
- unscrew plug 3 (figure 5.4.3) on the upper cover of gearbox 4 and fill in fresh oil to the re-
quired level (to access oil filler plug 3, unscrew five bolts and remove the floor cover under your
feet). The normal oil level in the transmission should be between the lower and upper recesses of
oil indicator 1.
- put back plug 3 and the floor cover;
- warm up the transmission to normal operating temperature by moving the tractor and
check the oil level. If necessary, add oil to the required level.
