6 Explanations Volume 3
What to do if …… If no suitable DD is available on the HART
®
Communicator, then
one of the following two things may happen:
Scenario 1:
The DD on the Communicator is older than the version of the
embedded software in the Uni-Probe.
Example:
DD on the Communicator: Dev v1
Field Device Revision: Fld dev rev: 2
The following warning is displayed on the Communicator:
NOTICE: Upgrade 275 software to access new xmtr functions
This means the DD has to be updated to utilize the full function-
ality of the device.
Then follows the question: Continue with old description? Yes/
No
Select
YES.
You can continue working normally with the device. However,
new functions that do not yet support the DD are not available.
Scenario 2:
The DD on the HART
®
Communicator is older than the version of
the embedded software in the Uni-Probe.
Example:
DD on the Communicator: Dev v2
Field Device Revision: Fld dev rev: 1
Then the Generic DD starts. HART
®
does not allow that in this
case an existing DD by the manufacturer will be loaded, as oth-
erwise the program on the Communicator may crash. In the
Generic DD you cannot carry out a calibration and many
parameters for the Uni-Probe are missing.
Universal Revision All Berthold-DD’s require the Universal Commands for HART
®
5 or
higher.
This means, that the HART
®
Communicator, e.g. by Emerson Pro-
cess Model 275, has to be equipped at least with the firmware 2 or
the newer model 375 has to be used.
If the Communicator has a lower version than HART
®
5, then the
Generic DD will be started.
To query the version of the Universal Commands, select on the
HART
®
Communicator the menu REVIEW UNIVERSAL
