2 General Information on
SIMATIC PDM
Parameter settings: Never change the parameter settings without
a full knowledge of the operating instructions contained in this
User’s Manual, as well as a full knowledge of the behavior of the
connected controller and the possible influence on the operating
process to be controlled.
SIMATIC PDM is a software package for project planning, parame-
ter setting, start-up and maintenance of devices (e.g. sensors such
as the Uni-Probe LB 490) and for project planning of networks.
SIMATIC PDM contains simple process monitoring of process val-
ues, alarms and status information of a device.
In connection with the Uni-Probe Device Description (Uni-Probe
DD) by BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES, the Level Gauge Uni-Probe
LB 490 can easily be configured, parameterized, calibrated and
controlled via SIMATIC PDM.
Depending on which software version of SIMATIC PDM you have,
the Uni-Probe DD is already integrated in the software, or has to be
installed new (see Volume 5, section 3.3).
SIMATIC PDM works within a SIMATIC Manager STEP 7 environ-
ment.
This User’s Manual describes all functions of the SIMATIC PDM soft-
ware you need to work with the Level Gauge Uni-Probe LB 490.
For further Information on the SIMATIC Manager Step 7 and
SIMATIC PDM please refer to the respective SIEMENS documenta-
tion.
