Axle shaft
1. Remove any attachments, park the machine on a level surface, engage the
parking brake, and remove the key from the ignition.
2. Drain the fluid from the front or rear transaxle as required; refer to Changing Rear
Transaxle Fluid, page 8–13, Changing the Hydraulic Fluid, page 5–20.
3. Lift and securely support the affected side of the machine and chock the wheels;
refer to Jacking Instructions, page 1–6.
4. Remove the axle shaft from the machine; refer to Removing and Installing Axle
Shafts, page 8–11.
IMPORTANT
The spacer and bearing are pressed onto the axle shaft. A press must be used
to remove them to avoid damaging the axle shaft.
5. Remove the spacer
and bearing from the axle shaft .
6. To install the bearing ensure that the axle cover plate
is installed on the shaft.
7. Press the bearing onto the shaft against the collar.
8. Press the axle spacer onto the axle against the bearing.
9. Install the axle shaft.
10. Install the wheel.
11. Add fluid to the rear transaxle or the hydraulic system as needed.
