1. Remove any attachments from the machine, park the machine on a level surface,
engage the parking brake, remove the key from the ignition, and switch the main
circuit breaker to the O
FF position.
2. Read the General Precautions for Removing and Installing Hydraulic System
Components, page 5–19.
3. For assembly purposes, label all the hydraulic connections. Clean the hydraulic
connections before loosening the hydraulic hoses from the steering cylinder.
4. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses
from the fittings on the steering cylinder.
Allow the hoses to drain into an approved container. Remove and discard the O-
rings from the fittings.
5. Install clean caps or plugs on the hydraulic hoses and fittings to prevent
contamination.
6. Remove the front and rear cylinder mounting bolts
.
7. Remove the steering cylinder from the machine.
8. If the hydraulic fittings are to be removed from the steering cylinder, mark the
fitting orientation, and remove the fittings from the steering cylinder and discard
the O-rings from the fittings.
Installing the Steering Cylinder
1. Install the hydraulic fittings Figure 38, item 3 into the cylinder as required.
Lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid; refer to Installing the
Hydraulic Fittings (SAE Straight Thread O-Ring Fittings), page 5–12. Ensure that
the fittings are orientated correctly.
2. Position the steering cylinder in the chassis aligning the mounting holes, install
the mounting bolts Figure 38, item 2.
3. Remove the caps and plugs that were installed on the hydraulic hoses Figure 38,
item 1. Lubricate and install the new O-rings, connect the hydraulic hoses to the
fittings on the steering cylinder. Tighten the hose connections; refer to Installing
the Hydraulic Hoses and Tubes (O-Ring Face Seal), page 5–10.
