Removing the Front Axle Assembly (continued)
B. Remove the radiator; refer to 4520P Removing the Radiator, page 4–15.
C. Remove the air cleaner system; refer to 4520P Removing and Installing the
Air Cleaner System, page 4–3.
D. Remove the parking brake drum; refer to Removing the Parking Brake Drum,
page 7–42.
E. Remove connector link mount; refer to Removing the Connector Link Mount,
page 7–47.
4. Drain the hydraulic fluid from the front transaxle
.
Note: Clean the hydraulic connections before disconnecting any hydraulic hoses or
fittings.
5. Label and disconnect the hydraulic hoses and sight tube from the transaxle.
Install caps or plugs on hoses and fittings to prevent contamination.
6. Remove the front hydraulic motor mounting bolts.
7. Disconnect the high / low shift linkage from the transaxle.
8. Support the front of the machine and the front transaxle separately.
9. Remove the four mounting bolts
from the axle housings and remove the front
axle assembly from the machine.
10. If the hydraulic fittings are to be removed from the transaxle, mark the fitting
orientation, and remove the fittings from the transaxle and discard the O-rings
from the fittings.
Installing the Front Axle Assembly
1. Install the hydraulic fittings into the transaxle as required. Lubricate the new O-
rings with clean hydraulic fluid; refer to Installing the Hydraulic Hoses and Tubes
(O-Ring Face Seal), page 5–10. Ensure that the fittings are oriented correctly.
2. Position the transaxle Figure 117, item 2 under the machine and install the four
mounting bolts Figure 117, item 1.
3. Remove the caps and plugs that were installed on the hydraulic hoses. Lubricate
and install the new O-rings, connect the hydraulic hoses to the fittings on the
transaxle. Tighten the hose connections; refer to Installing the Hydraulic Hoses
and Tubes (O-Ring Face Seal), page 5–10.
4. Connect the high/low shift linkage to the transaxle.
5. Install the front hydraulic motor mounting bolts; refer to Installing the Front
Hydraulic Motor, page 5–22.
6. Complete the following procedures before continuing.
A. Install the connector link mount; refer to Installing the Connector Link Mount,
page 7–47.
B. Install the parking brake drum; refer to Installing the Parking Brake Drum,
page 7–42.
