Turn the steering wheel fully to PORT. While hold-
ing the steering wheel against the stop, observe
Port Pressure. Then turn the steering wheel fully
to STARBOARD. While holding the steering wheel
against the stop, observe Starboard Pressure.
Pressure should be approximately 1000 psi (6895
kPa) for a standard helm, or 1500 psi (10342 kPa)
for a Pro-Series or SVS-Series helm.
Steering Position Sensor Test
Use Evinrude Diagnostics software v 6.1 or higher
to observe steering angle while turning the steer-
ing wheel.
Steering Position
Sensor Service
Remove two screws from the sensor and two
screws from the magnet.
Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Tighten
all screws to a torque of 35 to 60 in. lbs. (4 to 6.7
N·m).
IMPORTANT: The steering position sensor uses
a clamp-on ferrite suppressor. Remove the sup-
pressor from the old sensor. Install the suppressor
on the sleeve of the new sensor, within 2 to 4 in.
(50 to 100 mm) of the electrical connector.
