Gearcase Disassembly (Standard Rotation)
Installation
IMPORTANT: Make sure the pinion bearing is in-
stalled BEFORE installing the oil pump.
Use Installer, P/N 358521, to install the oil pump.
Align the oil pump with the hole to the STAR-
BOARD side of the gearcase housing as shown.
Place the tapered end of the installer into the oil
pump. Push by hand to install the oil pump. A light
tap with a hammer handle to seat the oil pump.
Install one end of the retaining ring into its retain-
ing groove. Use a punch to work the retaining ring
into the groove.
Propeller Shaft and Forward Gear
Removal
Use the Shift Rod Installer Tool, P/N 358162, to
push down on the shift rod. This will move the
detent lever downward to clear the inside of the
gearcase when the shaft assembly is pulled out.
Use the tool to remove the shift rod from the
detent lever.
Use Propeller Shaft Bearing Housing Puller Kit,
P/N 354060, to remove the propeller shaft and for-
ward gear from the gearcase.
Place the Adapter, P/N 354178, on the gearcase,
followed by the Puller, P/N 354177. Then install
the Puller Stud, P/N 358294, onto the propeller
shaft until seated.
Install Puller Tube Assembly, P/N 354175, over
the puller stud. Hold the puller stud with a wrench

NOTICE
This procedure REQUIRES replacement of
the shift lever and shift cradle.
The shift lever and shift cradle are damaged
during disassembly and must NOT be re-
used. Re-use of these parts will result in a
future part failure.
