Oiling System Tests
IMPORTANT: Always perform visual inspections
to identify oiling system leaks. Make sure the oil
tank is filled and oil supply is not contaminated.
Oil Pump Electrical Tests
Oil system electrical circuits are dependent on wir-
ing and connections, EMM supplied current and
component resistance. The supplied current flows
through the wiring circuit and component before
returning to the EMM.
Circuit tests check the integrity of the main engine
harness and EMM circuits using resistance or
diode tests. Continuity tests check the integrity of
ground circuits and/or the 55V circuit. These tests
eliminate the need to disconnect the engine har-
ness from the EMM, or remove the EMM.
Crankcase Oil Pump
Use a digital multimeter calibrated to a scale that
reads 55 V (DC) to measure voltage between the
oil pump electrical connector and engine ground.
Connect negative meter lead to ground.
Use an appropriate test probe lead to connect
positive meter lead to pin B (blue wire) of oil pump
electrical connector.
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Observe
voltage at pin B.
Voltage at pin B should be approximately 30 V.
Use the Crankcase Pump button of Evinrude
Diagnostic software Tests screen to activate the
oil pump.
Observe voltage at pin B.
Voltage at pin B should drop as the oil pump
cycles.
NOTICE
Use appropriate test leads or adapters such
as Test Probe Kit, P/N 342677, when perform-
ing electrical tests.
NEVER pierce the insulation of the engine
wiring, or use any piercing-style test probe.
Piercing insulation damages the wire and can
cause other unintended electrical problems.
