ward to assist in the installation of the shaft
assembly.
Be sure the thrust bearing and the thrust washer
are in the proper position. Insert the shaft assem-
bly fully into the gearcase. Make sure the align-
ment pin on the shifter housing is aligned with the
hole in forward end of gearcase housing.
Make sure the shifter detent will align with the shift
rod bushing. Look through the shift rod bushing to
confirm the shifter detent will align with the shift
rod. Misalignment will prevent installation of the
shift rod.
Install Press Fixture Nose, P/N 358161 onto Gear-
case Press Fixture, P/N 354059. Place Forward
Bearing Press Fixture, P/N 358163, over propeller
shaft and into gearcase housing.
Align and level the gearcase assembly in the fix-
ture as shown. Secure the fixture to a floor press.
Press until the shifter housing is seated.
Use the Shift Rod Installer Tool, P/N 358162, to
install the shift rod.
Pinion Gear and Driveshaft
Installation
Refer to Driveshaft Shimming on p. 391.
Install new seals in driveshaft bearing housing.
Refer to Driveshaft Bearing Housing Service on
p. 386.
Place the driveshaft thrust bearing, thrust washer,
and correct shim(s) on the driveshaft as shown.
