Shift Housing Removal
Refer to Shift Housing Removal on p. 379.
Water Intake Screens
Remove and clean side water intake screens.
Replace if damaged.

Shift Housing Disassembly
IMPORTANT: The shift housing and bearing are
serviced as an assembly. If either are worn or dam-
aged, replace the complete assembly.
If the reverse gear came out with the clutch shaft,
remove the cradle and gear from the clutch shaft.
Insert a suitable tool under one end of the clutch
dog spring and remove it from its groove by
unwrapping it from around the clutch dog. Dis-
card the spring.
