Gearcase
Gearcase Disassembly (Counter Rotation)

Pull the propeller shaft and bearing housing far
enough to loosen the PRESSED bearing housing
from the gearcase housing.
Remove propeller shaft, bearing housing and for-
ward gear as an assembly from the gearcase.
Pinion Gear Removal and
Driveshaft Servicing
Refer to Pinion Gear and Lower Driveshaft
Removal on p. 376.
Clutch Shaft and Reverse Gear
Removal
Use Ball/Detent Remover Installer, P/N 358519,
remove the sleeve, detent balls and spring from
the clutch shaft.
Align the slots in the tool end with the small detent
balls.
Push the tool on the large detent ball to release
pressure from the two small detent balls and
sleeve. While holding pressure on the tool, slide
the sleeve off of the clutch shaft. Slowly release
pressure on the tool and remove the tool and

The detent balls and spring can come out
with great force.
