Prerequisites
InordertocalibratetheEK80,thefollowingequipmentisrequired:
•Referencetargets(metalspheres)tottheoperationalfrequencies
•Wincharrangementwithrelevantlinestolowerthesphereintothesoundbeam
Thevesselmustbeanchoredinasuitablepositionwithsufcientdepth,andwithcalm
andshelteredwater.
Context
InordertocalibratetheEK80,areferencetarget(calibrationsphere)withknowntarget
strength(TS)isloweredintothesoundbeam.Themeasuredtargetstrengthisthen
comparedwiththeknowntargetstrength.Duringthecalibration,thecalibrationsphereis
physicallymovedinsidethesoundbeam.
KongsbergMaritimecansupplyavarietyofcopperandtungstencalibrationspheres
dedicatedfordifferentoperationalfrequencies.Eachspherediameterisselectedfor
minimumtemperaturedependence.
Procedure
1Preparethevesselforcalibrationaccordingtotherelevantprocedures.
2CalibrateallchannelsontheEK80Widebandscienticechosounderaccordingto
therelevantprocedures.
