Machinerynoise
Themaincontributorisusuallythemainengineonboardthevessel.Thecontributionfrom
auxiliarymachinerymay,however,beconsiderable,especiallyifsomeofitisinpoorshape.

•Structure-bornenoisethroughtheshipstructureandthetransducermountings
•Water-bornenoisethroughthehullintothewatertothetransducer
Electricnoise
Modernvesselsarenormallyequippedwithalotofelectricinstrumentssuchas
hydroacousticsystems,radars,navigationsystems,andcommunicationequipment.Any
electricinstrumentsmayinsomecauseelectricalinterferenceandnoise.
Internationalregulationsandcerticationsareusedtocontrolandreducethis,buteventhese
arelimitediftheelectricalsystemsarepoorlyinstalledandmaintained.
