Splicingthetransducercable
Ifyouneedtocutorlengthenthetransducercable,youmustspliceitcorrectly.Thisisvery
important,asanyspliceisveryvulnerablefornoise.
Prerequisites
Thefollowingitemsarerequired.
•Ametaljunctionboxwithcableglandsdesignedforelectromagnetic
compatibility(EMC).Thejunctionboxmustcontainasuitableterminalblock.The
terminalblockmustprovidesolidfasteningofthecableendsaswellassufîš¿cient
insulationbetweenthewires.
•Thenecessarylengthoftransducercable
ThecablebetweenthejunctionboxandthetransceivermustbesuppliedbyKongsberg
Maritime,andthismustbethesametypeasusedonthetransducer.
Electricalinstallationscanonlybedonebycertiîš¿edelectricians.Allnecessarytoolsand
instrumentsrequiredmustbeavailable.Theinstallationshipyardmustpreparedetailed
drawingsoftheelectricalsystem,andidentifyeachcable.
Youmustbeequippedwithastandardsetoftools.Thistoolsetmustcomprisethenormal
toolsforelectronicandelectromechanicaltasks,suchasscrewdrivers,pliers,spanners,a
cablestripperetc.Eachtoolmustbeprovidedinvarioussizes.Werecommendthatalltools
aredemagnetizedtoprotectyourequipment.
Context
Donotsolderthewirestogetherwithonlyelectricaltapeforinsulation.Thiswillresultin
electricalnoiseandreducedoperationalperformance.
Donotconnectthecablescreentothevessel'sground.
Procedure
1Mountthejunctionboxinasuitablelocation.
2Terminatethesteelconduitscontainingthetransducercablesasclosetothejunction
boxaspossible.
3Verifythatthejunctionboxchassisisnotconnectedtothevesselground.
Ifrequired,usenecessaryinsulation.
4Removetheinsulationoneachtransducercable,andconnecttheindividualconductors
totheterminalblock.
5Removetheinsulationoneachextensioncable,andconnecttheindividualconductors
totheterminalblock.
6Verifythatyouhaveconnectedthewires1:1,andthatthecoloursmatch.
