Unpackingtransducers
Priortoinstallationoruse,sonarheadsandhydrophonesmustbeunpackedfromtheir
transportboxes.Itisimportantthatthisunpackingisdonewithoutinictingdamageto
theequipment.
Prerequisites
Observetheprocedureforunpackingofstandardpartsandunits.
Context
Transducersmaybesuppliedmountedtoahullunit(ifany),orpackedseparately.Sonar
headsandhydrophonesarenormallypackedandshippedinseparateboxes.Boxesare
identiedbytheordernumberandtheserialnumberoftheunitinside.
Note
Onceatransducer ,sonarheadorhydrophoneisunpacked,makesurethatthebodyand
thecablingarenotexposedtoanymechanicalstress.Protectthetransducerfacewith
apaddedcoverplatetopreventdamage.
Transducersmaybeheavy.
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateitem.Wrongfulactionsmaydamagethe
transducerbeyondrepair.
Observethesetransducerhandlingrules:
•Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
•Donotliftthetransducerbythecable.
•Donotsteponthetransducercable.
•Donothandlethetransducerroughly,avoidimpacts.
•Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
•Donotusehighpressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducerface.
Procedure
1Obtainthenecessaryliftingequipment,andmakesurethattheequipmentiscertied
fortheweight.
2Liftthetransducer,sonarheadorhydrophoneoutofthetransportationbox.
3Placeitinastablepositionontheoor/workbench.
4Inspecttheunitforvisualdamage.
