Bewareofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)!
Note
Whenyouhandleelectroniccircuitboardsandmodules,youmustbewareofthedangersof
electrostaticdischarge(ESD),bothtoyourselfandtotheequipment.Inordertoensuresafe
transportandstorage,circuitboardsandotherelectronicunitswillalwaysbewrappedin
aclearplasticprotectivebag,andthebagwillbesealed.
Procedure
1Prepareasuitableworkbenchwithaconductiveservicemat.
2Makesurethatyouwearagroundedwristbandwithdirectcontactwiththeskin
Whenyouareworkingonboardavessel,an“approvedconductiveservicemat”isoftenfar
away.Asyoustillneedtounpackcircuitboards,makesurethatyoudoitintheinstrument
room,oratanotherlocationwhereyouhaveasteeldeck.
Note
Keepfarawayfromthebridgeoranyotherroomswithwall-to-wallcarpets!
Ifpossible,bringawristbandandgroundyourself.
3Liftthecircuitboard,initsprotectiveantistaticpackingbag,outofthetransportbox.
4Placeitinastablepositionontheworkbench.
5Inspecttheunitfordamagebeforeyouopentheplasticbag.
6Donotbreakthesealtoopenaprintedcircuitboardorelectronicsmodulepackage
beforetheitemshalltobeused.
Important
Ifthepackageisreturnedwiththesealbroken,wewillassumethatthecontenthas
beenused.Youwillthenbebilledaccordingly.
7Assumingalliswell,openthebagandremovetheunit.
8Takeoutandkeepthedocumentation.
Youwillneedthedocumentationifthecircuitboardormoduleshallbereturnedtous.
9Removeanypackinganddesiccantmaterialthatmaybeinside.
