Section 03 TROUBLESHOOTING
Subsection 04 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM)
Symptom
Battery goes dead
after unit sits for a
long period of time.
Check battery.
No good
Replace battery.
System
is working
battery was
at fault.
Good
With engine stopped,
by using an ammeter
in the milli amp scale,
check for a draw
from the battery.
Once a current draw
is detected start
disconnection wire
connections untill
the current draw
stops.
Repair or replace
defective part that
was drawing current.
All is well.
No draw
Symptom
Check battery.
Replace battery.
Battery will not stay
charged unit even if
is often used.
By using an ammeter
and voltmeter
connect to
confirm problem.
No good
Perform magneto/
generator tests.
Check connections.
Replace.
Check applicable
fuses
Regulator/rectifier faulty:
replace and reconfirm
that system is now
properly functioning.
Replace and
reconfirm that
system is now
properly functioning.
Burnt
No good
Good
When engine running
at 3000 RPM,
ammeter shows no
charge occuring

Symptom
Bulbs are burnt and
battery has very little
electrolyte in it.
Check battery.
With engine running
at 5000 RPM, by
using an ammeter
and voltmeter
connect to
confirm problem.
No good
Good
Voltage is to high
Replace regulator/
rectifier assembly
and reconfirm that
system is now
properly functioning.
Regulator/rectifier
was at fault.
Good
DC charging system all accessories are DC operated
