IPv6 Configuration
ThecommandsinthischapterperformconfigurationofIPv6parametersontheEnterasysG‐
Series.ForinformationaboutspecificIPv6routingprotocols,suchasOSFPv3,refertothe

Overview
IPv6andIPv4coexistontheEnterasysG‐Series.AswithIPv4,IPv6routingcanbeenabledon
VLANinterfaces.EachLayer3routinginterfacecanbeusedforIPv4,IPv6,orboth.
TheG‐SeriessupportsallIPv6addressformats,includingglobalunicastaddresses,link‐local
unicast,globalmulticast,scoped
multicast(includinglocalscopedmulticast),IPv4compatible
addresses,unspecifiedaddresses,loopbackaddresses,andanycastaddresses.

ThebasicIPv6protocolspecifies
PDUoptionsoftwoclasses,bothofwhicharesupported:hop‐
by‐hopoptionsanddestinationoptions.Whilenewoptionscanbedefinedinthefuture,the
followingarecurrentlysupported:routing(forsourcerouting),fragment,routeralertandpad.
Jumbogramsarenotsupported.InIPv6,onlysourcenodesfragment.
PathMTUdiscoveryis
thereforearequirement.Flowlabelsareignored.
NeighborDiscoveryistheIPv6replacementforARP.TheG‐Seriessupportsneighboradvertise
andsolicit,duplicateaddressdetection,andunreachabilitydetection.RouterAdvertisementis
partoftheNeighborDiscoveryprocessandisrequiredforIPv6.Statelessautoconfigurationis
part
ofRouterAdvertisementandtheG‐Seriescansupportbothstatelessandstateful

IPv6 routing must be enabled with a license key. If you have purchased an IPv6 routing license key, and have
enabled routing on the device, you must activate your license as described in “Activating Licensed Features”
on page 2-27 in order to enable the IPv6 routing configuration command set. If you wish to purchase an IPv6
