18. Common Reference System
(Multi-workstation mode)
18.1 Introduction
A system is comprised of one or more Workstation(s) and it is configured as follows:
Single workstation
Multiple workstation (for example, navigation workstation and planning station)
Multiple workstation (for example, navigation workstations)
An access server takes care of information shared inside the system to keep workstations consistent within the
common reference system concept. The access server also monitors if a workstation has a right to make certain
actions (for example if a workstation has usage rights to change monitored route for the system).
The common reference system concept includes the following features:
Shared navigation sensors
Shared alert management
Shared chart databases for S57 (ENC) and ARCS
Shared databases for routes, user charts, manual updates and Notes
Some operator selections are shared (for example safety contour), while some other operator selections are
defined separately for each workstation.
User selections used for route planning are separate for each workstation
The Installation parameters of the system define if the system consists of more than one workstation and in which
the access server is running. For further details see the service manual.
