circuit
For NMX Digital Service Manager, an elementary stream that carries audio, video, or data. Each
circuit is assigned a unique
PID .
closed captioning
The process of encoding, transmitting, decoding, and displaying program-related text typically on
the lower part of a monitor or television during broadcast. See
CEA-608 and CEA-708 standards.
CMTS
Cable Modem Termination System. Defined by CableLabs DOCSIS Base Specifications.
CO
Central Office.
color burst
The portion of the analog composite video waveform that sits between the horizontal sync and
the start of active video. The color burst tells the monitor how to decode the color information
contained in that line of active video.
companion key
Refers to a use of the keypad that is found on some Harmonic products. When using key
combinations such as Shift +
v, each of the two keys is a companion to the other.
component
A portion of a signal or system.
concealment motion vectors
Provide a functionality similar to the dropout compensator in a video tape recorder. Concealed
vectors aid in error recovery but consume some of the available bandwidth and might not be
supported by some decoders.
conditional access

Configuring
Defining the parameters of platform, input and output ports.
convolutional code
See FEC .
Copper Cable
A slang term for an electrical (as opposed to optical) cable interface. Copper cables are typically
coaxial or twisted wire, but other physical variants may be found.
