remultiplex
A component that multiplexes several MPEG-2 SPTS input streams into a single MPTS output
stream.
RFD
Repeat Field Detection. A capability to detect field or frame repeats in video signals where the
original source was film and is presented in a
3:2 pulldown cadence. This process, defined by
MPEG video, saves bits by sending the encoded pictures at their original 24 Hz frame rate. This is
sometimes called inverse telecine.
RJ-45
Also RJ45. An eight-wire connector such as an Ethernet connector. See also 10BASE-T
and
100BASE-T .
RMX module
A card for the MN20 multiplex which accepts up to four M2S inputs from Harmonic
components. An RMX module multiplexes these inputs with other MPEG-2 transport streams.
roll-off factor
The amount of bandwidth used in excess of the baud rate.
route group
Route group (RG) is a group of NMX servers. It supports the engineering NMX system (also
know as the backup route group). Every object in a route group has its own unique ID. Duplicate
ID’s may exist across route groups (for example, between primary route group and a backup route
group).
RSVP
Resource Reservation Protocol
RTSP
Real Time Streaming Protocol
S
SAS
Set-top Box Authentication Server. An SAS authenticates set-top boxes as valid users of one or
more services. The SAS may also coordinate with a billing system.
SAPI
Server Application Programming Interface
SCG
Scrambling Control Groups. A message sent from Mini EIS , specifying which service(s) and/or
elementary stream(s) should be scrambled.
