Preparingcablesfortermination
Wheneveracableshallpenetrateacabinetorabulkheadusingacablegland,thetermination
ofthecablemustbeprepared.
Prerequisites
Electricalinstallationscanonlybedonebycertiedelectricians.Allnecessarytoolsand
instrumentsrequiredmustbeavailable.Theinstallationshipyardmustpreparedetailed
drawingsoftheelectricalsystem,andidentifyeachcable.
Context
Cableglandsareusedwheneveracablepassesthroughawatertightbulkheadorintoa
cabinet,tosealtheopeningthroughwhichthecablepassesandtoprotectthecablefrom
abrasionontheedgesofthehole.Followtheguidelinesprovidedherewheninstalling
cablesthroughcableglands.
Important
Therearemanydifferenttypesofcableglandonthemarket.Thisproceduredescribes
thetypesused(nowandpreviously)asstandardintheunitsmanufacturedbyKongsberg
Maritime.Thecableglandsarenotsuppliedwiththesystem.
EventhoughthecabinetsfromKongsbergMaritimemaybepreparedforspecictypes,the
installationshipyardwillberesponsibleforselectingcableglandtypesandinstallingthem.
Procedure
1Ensureallthecablestobeconnectedarecompletelyisolatedfromanypowersources.
Forsafetyreasons,switchoffandremovethepowersupplyfusesfromanyunitsor
systemsintowhichthecablesarealreadyconnected.
