Atmoderateshipspeedsthemachinerynoiseisusuallydominant.Atmediumspeedsthe
ownoiseincreasesmorerapidlyandtakesover,whileathigherspeedthepropellernoise
willbethemaincontributor.

handledseparatelydependingonthehulldesignandtheotherelectricalandmechanical
systemsinstalledonthevessel.
Reducingownoise

Theshapeofthetransducer(ordomearoundit)must
beasstreamlinedaspossible.
Thehullplatinginfrontofthetransducermustbeas
smoothaspossible.Beespeciallyawareofbilgekeels
andzincalloyanodes.Thekeelshouldberounded
offwithoutsharpedges.
Important
Noextrudingobjectsoranyabrupttransitionsshould
appear.
Echosoundertransducershouldbemountedwithasmallinclinationangle(approximately
2degrees).
Reducingmachinerynoise
Thetransducer(s)mustbeinstalledasfarawayfromtheengineroomaspossible.
Themainengineandrelevantauxiliaryenginesandequipmentshouldbexedtorigid
foundationstoavoidvibrations.Useofshockabsorbersoroatingraftsmaysometimes
reducethisnoise.
Anyhullstructurethatmayvibrateshouldbedampedorcoatedtoreducethevibrations.
Thestructure-bornenoisemaybereducedbyisolation,forexamplebyproviding
vibrationclampingbetweenthetransducerandthehullstructure.
Reducingpropellernoise
Thetransducershouldbeinstalledasfarawayfromthepropellersaspossible.
Sufcientclearancebetweenthepropellersandthehull,therudderandthekeelshouldbe
provided.
