4.Ifasteeringproblemissuspect,determineifthesteeringcylinderorcircuit
reliefvalveisdamagedusingthefollowingprocedure:
A.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingunit(orattachment),
andengagetheparkingbrake.
B.Withtheenginerunning,turnthesteeringwheeltotheright(clockwise)
untilthesteeringcylinderrodisfullyextendedandsetthekeyswitch
totheOFFposition.
C.ReadandadheretotheinformationprovidedinT estingtheHydraulic
System(page5–22).
D.Cleanthehydraulicttingandhoseendattherodendofthesteering
cylinderanddisconnectthehydraulichose.
E.Installapressuregaugeattheendofthedisconnectedhose.
F.Withtheenginenotrunning,continueturningthesteeringwheeltothe
right(clockwise).Monitorthehydraulicuidattheopenttingonthe
steeringcylinderasthesteeringwheelisturnedtotheright.
G.Starttheengineandrunitatlow-idlespeed.Checkforhydraulicuid
leaksandcorrectbeforecontinuingthetest.
H.Settheenginespeedtoapproximately2,000rpm.UsetheTDM
display/controllerscreentocheckthattheenginespeediscorrect.
IMPORTANT
Turnthesteeringwheeltotheleftonlylongenoughtogeta
systempressurereading.Turningthesteeringwheeltotheleft
foranextendedperiodmaydamagethesteeringcontrolvalve.
I.Monitorthepressuregaugecarefullywhenturningthesteeringwheel
foraleftturn(counterclockwise).
J.Thesystempressureshouldbeapproximately7,000to7,500kPa(1,015
to1,088psi)asthereliefvalveopens.
K.ReturnthesteeringwheeltotheNEUTRALposition,setthekeyswitchto
theOFFposition,andrecordthetestresults.
5.Ifthehydraulicuidcomesoutofthettingwhileturningthesteeringwheel
totheright,thesteeringcylinderhasinternalleakageandshouldbereplaced
orrepaired;refertoSteeringCylinder(page5–98)orSteeringCylinder
Service(page5–101).
6.Ifthereliefvalvepressurespecicationisnotmet,replaceorrepairthe
steeringcontrolvalve;refertoSteeringControlValve(page5–95)orSteering
ControlValveService(page5–97).
7.Aftertesting:
A.Connectallhydraulichoses.
B.Checkandadjustthelevelofthehydraulicuidinthehydraulicreservoir;
refertothetractionunitOperator’sManual.
C.Starttheengineandoperatethesteeringsystem.Checkforany
hydraulicuidleaks.Repairhydraulicleaksifnecessarybeforereturning
themachinetoservice.
