Procedure in case of malfunctions

Malfunction Possible cause Measure
The contact between the
ECG electrodes and the
patient’s skin is poor.
Check the contact of the electrodes on
the patient’s skin, in particular of the
green and the black ECG electrode of the
4 pole ECG monitoring cable.
Remove excessive hair from the patient’s
skin.
Clean the sites for attaching the ECG
electrodes to the skin with a substance
containing alcohol.
Use new ECG electrodes.
The clip of the 4 pole ECG
monitoring cable is not
connected properly to the
ECG electrodes.
Check the connection of the clip to the ECG
electrodes, in particular to the green and
the black electrode of the 4 pole ECG
monitoring cable.
In the environment are
sources of electrical
interference.
If possible, remove or switch off sources of
electrical interference.
ECG filter settings or mains
filter not correct.
Check the ECG filter setting for monitoring
and diagnostic.
Check the mains filter settings.
The selected or more
ECG curves are not
displayed.
The contact between the
ECG electrodes and the
patient’s skin is poor.
Check the contact of the electrodes on the
patient’s skin, in particular the electrode of
the curve affected.
The clip of the ECG cable
is not correctly connected
to the ECG electrodes.
Connect the clip of the ECG cable to the
ECG electrodes.Check in particular the
ECG electrode of the curve affected.
The ECG cable is not
connected.
Plug the ECG cable into the appropriate
socket (ECG-M or ECG-D).
No signal data is received.
The data connection to the
patient box is possibly cut
off.
Check the connection status and reduce
the distance between the monitoring unit
and patient box or connect the modules
mechanically, if necessary.
Only one single ECG
curve is displayed.
The contact between the
red/yellow ECG electrodes
and the patient’s skin is
poor.
Check the contact of the electrodes on the
patient’s skin, in particular of the electrodes
connected to the red and yellow clip of the
ECG cable.
The clip of the ECG cable
is not connected properly to
the red/yellow ECG
electrodes.
Connect the clip of the ECG cable to the
ECG electrodes.Check in particular the red
and yellow clip of the ECG cable.
The QRS tone is
inaudible.
Acoustic reproduction of
the QRS tone is not
enabled.
Press the left softkey [QRS] in monitoring
mode.
The loudspeaker of the
monitoring unit is not
enabled.
Activate the loudspeaker of the monitoring
unit (see chapter 7.2.1 ECG Monitoring,
p. 148).
