19.10 Checking/adjusting the twine bar relative to the channel slot

Prerequisite:
– The machine is uncoupled from the tractor.
– The flywheel brake is applied.
– The knotter gear is in the idle position, see chapter Operation "End knotter operation
manually".
Checking the twine bar relative to the channel slot
• Pull the cotter pin and swivel up the knotter, repeat procedure for all knotters.
• Push the twine bar (1) manually towards the channel slot (b).
• Measure dimension "a", between the tip of the twine bar and the channel slot.
If dimension "a" is 3 to 10 mm, the twine bar is correctly set.
If dimension "a" is not 3 to 10 mm, the twine bar must be adjusted.
Adjusting the twine bar
To do this:
• Loosen counter nut (2) and screw (4) on the spherical plain bearing.
• Turn the joint head (3) until dimension "a" is 3 to 10 mm.
• Tighten counter nut (2) and screw (4).
Repeat the procedure for all twine bars.
Checking the twine bar for ease of movement.
– Relieve the twine locking shaft, see chapter Settings "Tensioning/relieving the twine locking
shaft".
• Rotate the twine bar back and forth manually.
If the twine bar can rotate back and forth easily, it is correctly set.
If the twine bar can only rotate back and forth with difficulty, there may be several causes for
this:
1. The control linkage is bent and must be replaced.
2. The spherical plain bearing is corroded and must be replaced.
3. The axial play in the twine locking shaft is too low, remove adjusting washer.
Rectify cause 1 to 3 and check or adjust the twine bar again, see chapter Settings
"Checking/adjusting the twine bar relative to the lower needle".
• Swing the knotter down and secure with cotter pin. Repeat the procedure for all knotters.
Repeat the procedure for all twine bars.
• Tension the twine locking shaft, see chapter Settings "Tensioning/relieving the twine locking
shaft".
