WATER PUMP SERVICE
Water Pump Cover and Impeller Service
(Stator Cover Remains on Engine)
NOTE: The wate r pu mp cov er, ga sket and impe ller
can be serviced with the stator cover installed on the
engine.
1. Allow engine and cooling system to completely cool.ï€
2. Remove both seats and the engine service panel.
3. Disconnect the (-) negative battery cable.
4. Remove all debris and thoroughly clean water pump
a
rea and right-hand side of engine block.
5. Remove the hood.
6. Remove the pressure c
ap from the filler neck.
7. Completely dr ain co oling syste m and engine as
outlined in this
chapter.
8. Raise a nd sa fely support the vehicle. Rem ove the
r
ight-hand rear wheel.
9. Remove th e (8) b olts (A) attaching th e water pu mp
cover
to the stator cover.
10. Remove the water pump cover (B) and water pump
co
ver gasket (C). Discard the water pump gasket (C).
11. Using an 8 mm socket, r emove th e water pum p
im
peller (D).
NOTE: The wa ter pump impe ller (D) use s rev erse
(LH)
threads.
12. Inspect the water pum p co ver an d impe ller for
d
amage. Replace as necessary.
13. Follow this pro cedure in reverse to asse mble th e
wa
ter pump impeller and cover. Always use a new
water p ump co ver g asket. To rque a ll fa steners in
sequence to specification.
14. Fill and bleed cooling s ystem as outlined in this
ch
apter.
Be sure the engine has cooled and no pressure
is built up in the cooling system before removing
the pressure cap. The coolant may be hot and
could cause severe injury or burns.
Water Pump Cover Fastener Torque:
9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
