EVC Definition
AnEVCisalogicalenti tythatprovidesameansforconnectingtwoendpointsintheTotal
Access5000andprovidesapathforEthernetframeswithaparticularVLANIDwithinthe
TotalAccess5000. TheEVCcross‐connectstwoendpointsandprovidesthemechanismby
whichanS‐tag
pathiscreatedinthesystem.TheS‐tagcorrespondstotheVLANID.For
example,intheEoCuapplicationanEVCcross‐connectiscreatedbetweenaphysicalnetwork
portandalogicalEFMbondinggroup.TrafficenteringthenetworkportontheselectedS‐tag
issentby
theGigESMtothe32‐PortSHDSLEFMcontainingthebondinggroupandthen
forwardedtothebondinggroupbythemodule.
IntheTotalAccess5000,customertrafficswitchesthroughoutthesystemviaS‐tags
(outermostVLANtagonanEthernetpacket).Downstreamtrafficentersthesystemthrough
the
networkportsonthe GigESMandisS‐tagswitchedtotheappropriateslot.The32‐Port
SHDSLEFMthendecideshowtosendthattraffictothecustomer.Upstreamtrafficis
switchedtothenetworkinasimilarmanner.
If the NetVanta 838 management VLAN differs from the GigE SM
managementVLAN,create acrossconnectfortheGigESMtopassthe
NetVanta838managementtraffic.Whencreating acrossconnect,setupthe
crossconnectwith anS‐tagequaltotheNetVanta83 8managementVLAN,
pointingtotheappropriateEFMGroup.

Whencreatingacross‐connect,enforcethefollowingguidelines:
•AnEVCcannotbepartofanothercross‐connect
• EachEVCmusthaveauniqueS‐tag
