Introduction
TheTotalAccess5000providestheabilitytoviewcountsofvarioustraffictypesthroughout
thesystemthatisnotgenerallyavailablebywayofthenormalperformancemonitoring
bucketsorcounters.Dynamiccountersallowtheusertosetupacountermonitoringtrafficas
itistransmittedto,orreceived
from,anyinterfaceintheTotalAccess5000orNetVanta.This
includesbackplane,EFMgroup,Ethernet,Gigabit‐Ethernet,andLinkAggregationinterfaces.
Inadditiontotheinterfacetobemonitored,theVLAN,VLANp‐bit,andcolorofthetraffic
canbespecified.
Ausercouldchoosetomonitoranygreen
trafficbeingreceivedonaparticularVLANfroma
specifiedEFMbondinggroup.Or,ausercouldchoosetomonitorredtrafficonaparticular
VLANbeingthrownawaybythepolicer.Onlyoneofeachfiltercanbespecified.For
example,twoVLANscannotbespecifiedforasingle
dynamiccounter.
Configure or Modify the Counter Profile for the Counter
Profilescanbeeditedtochangeanysavedcriteria.Toconfigureormodiftyacounterprofile,
completethefollowingprocedure:
1. FromtheEnableprompt,type
configure terminal,andpressENTERtoaccesstheGlo‐
balConfigurationprompt.
2. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,setuponemorecounterprofilesoranenteran
existingcounterprofilebytyping
counter-profile <shelf/slot/index>,andpress
ENTER.
Counterprofilesarenotglobal.Eachprofilebelongstoashelf/slot.Profilesareusedto
specifyvariousfiltersforthecounter.
3. Asdesired,typeeachofthefollowingtoconfigurethetypeoftraffictobespecifiedby
thecounterprofile.Createthefilterforthetraffictypetobemonitored:
•Type color <color>,andpressEntertospecifyatrafficcolortype.Validvaluesare
green,yellow,andred
•Type
pbit <p_bit_value>,andpress EntertospecifytheS‐tagprioritybitvalue.Valid
valuesare0‐7
•Type
vlan <VLAN>,andpressEntertospecifytheS‐tagvaluetobemonitored
Theprofileiscompleteatthispoint.
4. Type
exit,andpressENTERtoreturntotheGlobalConfigurationprompt.
5. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,type
dynamic-counter <shelf/slot/
index>
,andpressENTERtoaccesstheDynamic‐CounterConfigurationprompt.
6. FromtheDynamic‐CounterConfigurationprompt,type
set counter-profile
<shelf/slot/index> [exclude|include]
,andpressENTERtospecifythecounter‐
profiletobeusedbythedynamiccounter.
Useincludetocountpacketsthatmatchthecounter‐profile.Useexcludetocountpackets
thatdonotmatchthecounter‐profile.
7. FromtheDynamic‐CounterConfigurationprompt,assignaninterface tothecounterby
typing
set interface <interface_type> <shelf/slot/port> <traffic
direction>
,andpressENTER.
Validinterfacetypesarebackplane,efm‐group,ethernet,gigabit‐ethernet,andlag‐
group.Thetrafficdirectionspecifieswhetherthedynamiccountershouldbemonitoring
trafficbeingtransmittedto(tx)orreceivedfrom(rx)theinterface.
