Map and DSCP Definition
DefinetheassociationofcustomertrafficonaUNIportwithanEVCbydefininganentity
calledamap.EachmapisassociatedwithasinglecustomerandspecifiestheClassofService
(CoS)behaviorofthetrafficfromthecustomer.
TheEVCmapsetsupthemappingofcustomer
DifferentiatedServicesCodePoint(DSCP)
value(intheIPpacket)toMENprioritybitvalue(intheEthernetframe).Forexample,the
DSCPvalue60oftrafficcomingfromthecustomercouldbemappedtoserviceprovider
VLANprioritylevel4.
DSCPisthemarkerusedtodisplayasaheader
fieldinthepacketclassificationofIPpackets.
TheDSCPservesthepurposeofinitiatingnetworkrouterstoemploydifferentiatedgradesof
servicetoseveralpacketstreams.
Map Guidelines
Toensurevalidprovisioning,observethefollowingguidelineswhencreatingamap:
•AmapisappliedonlyiftheEVCmap’sstatusisRunning(asindicatedintheshowevc‐
mapoutput),whichindicatesthattheconditionsarevalid
•Twomapsareconsideredtobeduplicateiftheybothhavethesame
valuesforthe
followingattributes:
–UNIport/PPP‐group
– DifferentiatedServicesCodePoint(DSCP)value
•Notwomapscanhavethesamename
•WhenmultiplemapsareappliedtoacommonEVC,eachmapmustcontainthesame
PPP‐group.MultiplePPP‐groupscannotbemappedtoacommonEVC
IftheuserdoesnotspecifytheDSCPmatchcriteriaorMENpriorityvaluefor
themapandchoosesto usethedefaultvalues,themapisstillrequiredto
completethecreationoftheBSMservice.
