CreatetheMD,MA,andaMEPontheNetvanta800/8000SeriesNCTE#1(exampleatthe
end):
1. FromtheEnableprompt,type
configure terminal,andpressENTERtoaccesstheGlo‐
balConfigurationprompt.
2. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,enabletheEthernetOAMsubsystembytyping
ethernet cfm,andpressENTER.
3. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,createtheEthernetOAMMDbytyping
ethernet cfm domain char-string WORD level <0-7>,andpressENTER
UsethenameoftheMDinplaceoftheWORDfieldandspecifythelevelofMDafterthe
levelargument.
4. FromtheMDConfiguration,type
association char-string WORDtocreatetheMA
(oreditanexistingMA).

Auto‐discoveryletsalocalMEPdiscoveritspeerswithoutcommittingthemto

wheretheycancauseRemoteCCMdefects/alarms.OtheralarmsforinvalidCCI,
MACstatus,orXconnectwillstillberaised.Discoverydoesnotcommitanyofthe
discoveredRMEPstoprovisioningandifaDiscoveredentryfails,itwillberemoved
fromthesystemafteragingout.Learningallowstheuser
toimmediatelylearnallpeers,
transitionthemtoStaticentries,andplacetheirvaluesinprovisioningsotheywillbe
persistenuponarestore.
TherearesevealitemsthatcomposetheMEPdatabaseandcontrolhowitoperates.
•MEPDatabase‐EachMAmanagesitsownMEPdatabase.TheMEPdatabase
contains
allRemoteMEPsandalsoconfigureshowRemoteMEPscanbeadded.
• ConnectivityFailureInterval‐Thisvaluecannotbedirectlyconfiguredbyauserbut
isbasedoff oftheuser‐configurableCCMinterval.TheConnectivityFailureInterval
is3.5timestheCCMInterval.Itisoftenusedasthetimeframe
duringwhichcertain
eventsareexpectedtooccurwithin.OneexampleisifalocalMEPreceivesaCCM
fromaRMEPanddoesn’treceivesubsequentCCMfromitwithinthistimeframe,
thentheRMEP’sstateissetto‘Fail’.ForaMaintenanceAssociationusinga1‐second
CCMInterval,
ifalocalMEPreceivesaCCMfromaRMEPanddoesnotreceive
anotherwithin3.5‐seconds,theRMEPhasfailed.
•Remote‐MEP‐RemoteMEPs(RMEP)aredefinedbytheirMEPIDwhichmustbe
uniqueacrosstheMA.ThevalidrangeforaMEPIDis1‐8191.ARMEPcan
operate
inoneoftwomodes.Itcanbea‘Static’RMEPora‘Discovered’RMEP.The
operationmodeofaRMEPisdictatedbytheMEPdatabaseruleoftheMaintenance
Association.
–Static‐AStaticRMEPraisestheRemote CCMdefectconditionifittransitionsfrom
theOkstate
totheFailstate.AStaticRMEPwillalsobestoredinprovisioningafter
awriteandwillberestoredfollowingasubsequentreload.
–Discovered‐ADiscoveredRMEPdoesnotraisetheRemoteCCMdefectcondition
ifittransitionsfromtheOkstatetotheFailstate.AfterDiscoveredRMEPremains
