Provision MAC Address Limiting and Aging
TopreventMACAddressstormsatthecustomerEthernet/Gigabit‐Ethernetports,the
NetVanta800seriessupportsMACAddressLimiting.TheNetVantalearnsMACaddresses
fromtrafficingressingthecustomerinterface;oncetheNetVantalearnstheprovisionedlimit,
itdoesnotallowanyadditionalMACaddressestopasstowardthenetwork.The
MAC
Addresslimitcanbesettoanyvaluefrom1to100.MACAddressLimitingcanalsobe
disabled.Bydefault,NetVantahas MACAddressLimitingdisabled.
Ifenabled,MACAddressagingcanbeused.Bydefault,theMACAgingtimeoutis5
minutes.TheMACAgingTimeoutcanbe
settoanyvaluefrom1to3600seconds.Ifsetto
zero,MACAgingisdisabled,andlearnedMACaddressesarelocked.
TosettheMACAddressLimitcountandagingvalues,completethefollowi ngsteps:
1. FromtheEnableprompt,type
configure terminal,andpressENTERtoaccesstheGlo‐
balConfigurationprompt.
2. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,accesstheEthernetConfigurationpromptorthe
Gigabit‐EthernetConfigurationpromptbycompletingoneofthefollowing:
•Type
interface ethernet 1/0/port,andpressENTERtoaccesstheEthernet
Configurationprompt,whereportisanyvaluefrom1to4
•Type
interface gigabit-ethernet 1/0/1,andpressENTERtoaccess theGigabit‐
EthernetConfigurationprompt
3. Type
mac limit <# of MAC addresses>,andpressENTERtosetthemaximumnumber
ofMACAddressesallowedontheselectedinterface,from1to100addresses.
TodisableMAClimiting,typeno mac limit,andpressENTER.
4. Type
mac aging-time <timeout_value>,andpressENTERtosettheMACAddress
AgingTimeoutvaluefortheselectedinterface,wheretimeout_valueisthenewtimeout
valueinseconds,between0(MACagingisdisabled)and3600seconds.
5. Type
end,andpressENTERtoreturntotheEnableprompt.
