Bandwidth Policer
Abandwidthpolicerisamethodofcharacterizingserviceframesforthepurposeofrate
enforcement.Abandwidthpolicercanbeappliedinoneofthefollowingways:
•IngressbandwidthpolicerperingressUNI
•IngressbandwidthpolicerperEVC
•Ingressbandwidthpolicerpercustom
Intypicalapplications,thebandwidthavailableontheEVC
islessthanthebandwidth
availableattheUNIport.Thebandwidthbottleneckistypicallyonlyinthe UNI‐to‐MEN
direction;therefore,allbandwidthpolicersareappliedonlyfortrafficconductedintheUNI‐
to‐MENdirection.PolicersarenotappliedtothetrafficconductedintheMEN‐to‐
UNI
direction.
Bandwidth Policer Attributes
Theattributesofabandwidthpoliceraredescribedinthefollowingparagraphs.
Name
Thisattributeisanarbitrarystringthatisusedtoidentifythepolicer.Thevaluemustbe
uniqueacrossallpolicersdefinedintheproduct,andisintendedformanagementandcontrol
purposes.ThevalueisnotcarriedinanyfieldintheEthernetframe.
Configuration Status
Thisattributeisaread‐onlystatusidentifierofthepolicer.Thepolicercanbeadministratively
enabled,butitcannotbeinfunctionalstateifitisnotfullyconfiguredorifthereisaconflict.
