Disable Unused NetVanta 838 Interfaces
TheNetVanta838declaresalarmsforallunusedinterfaces(SHDSL,EFM,Ethernet,and
PowerFeed).Toclearthesealarmsoncethe838isturnedup,theappropriateinterfacesmust
beshutdown.
Thissubsectiondetailsthefollowing information
•DisabletheSHDSLinterfaces
•DisabletheEthernetinterfaces
•DisabletheGigabit‐Ethernetinterface
•Disablethe
powerfeedalarms
•Clearthealarmlog
Disable the SHDSL Interfaces
ForeachunusedSHDSLportintheEFMBondingGroup,completethefollowingprocedure:
ThismustbedonetocleartheSHDSLlossofsignalandEFMnearendsync
alarms.
1. FromtheEnableprompt,type
configure terminal,andpressENTERtoaccesstheGlo‐
balConfigurationprompt.
2. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,accesstheunusedSHDSLportʹsconfiguration
promptbytyping
interface shd
sl 1/0/<port>
,andpressENTER.3. FromtheSHDSLInterfaceConfigurationprompt,shuttheSHDSLportdownbytyping
shutdown,andpressENTER.
4. Repeatsteps2to3fortheremainingunusedSHDSLports.
5. FromtheSHDSLInterfaceConfigurationprompt,type
exit,andpressENTERtoreturnto
theGlobalConfigurationprompt.
6. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,type
interface efm-group 1/0/1,andpress
ENTERtoaccesstheEFMBondingGroupConfigurationprompt.
7. RemovetheSHDSLportfromthebondinggroupbytyping
no link <slot/port>,
andpress
ENTER.ForNetVantaproducts,theslotisalwayszero.
8. Repeatstep7toremoveallunusedportsfromtheEFMbondinggroup.
9. Type
end,andpressENTERtoreturntotheEnableprompt.
OnceallunusedSHDSLinterfaceshavebeendisabled,allSHDSLandEFMbondinggroup
alarmsshouldbeclearedinthealarmlog,andtheEFMLEDshouldbelitsolidgreen,ifthere
arenootherissues.Also,thepartialEFMgroupalarmshouldclear.
