Thegatewayshouldbetheroutertowhichtheinterfaceis connected,orthe
firstrouti nghopoutsideoftheTotalAccess5000fortheinterface.Astatic
entryforthe gatewayis added tothe route table when thegatewayis
configured,andthatIP addressisusedasthefirst
hopforroutingonthat
interface.

Provisioning the Ethernet Interface
TosettheEthernetinterfacefortheshelf,completethefollowingprocedure:
1. FromtheEnableprompt,type
configure terminal,andpressENTERtoaccesstheGlo‐
balConfigurationprompt.
2. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,type
interface ethernet 1/S/1,andpress
ENTERtoaccesstheEthernetInterfaceConfigurationprompt.
3. FromtheEthernetInterfaceConfigurationprompt,type
ip address A.B.C.D
A.B.C.D
,andpressENTERtoconfiguretheEthernetinterfaceIPaddressandsubnet
mask.
4. FromtheEthernetConfigurationprompt,type
no shutdown,andpressENTERtoreturn
toenabletheEt hernetInterfaceConfigurationprompt.
5. Type
exit,andpressENTERtoreturntotheGlobalConfigurationprompt.
6. FromtheGlobalConfigurationprompt,type
ip route A.B.C.D A.B.C.D A.B.C.D,
andpressEntertosetthegatewayfortheEthernetinterface,wherethefirstvalueisthe
IPaddressoftheEthernetinterface,thesecondvalueisthesubnetmask,andthethird
valueisthegatewayIPaddressfortheEthernetinterface.
NOTE
Thegatewayshouldbetheroutertowhichtheinterfaceis connected,orthe
firstrouti nghopoutsideoftheTotalAccess5000fortheinterface.Astatic
entryforthe gatewayis added tothe route table when thegatewayis
configured,andthatIP addressisusedasthefirst
hopforroutingonthat
interface.
7. Type
end,andpressENTERtoreturntotheEnableprompt.
NOTE
IfboththeIn ban dandEthernetinterfaceIPaddressesareprovisionedand
enabled,theymustbeondifferentsubnets.
