Configuring the Switch
Configuring the SNMP Agent
Use the procedures in this section to:
â—† Configure the SNMP agent that runs on the switch and
implements the following MIBs:
• MIB-II
• Fabric Element MIB
• Switch private MIB (refer to Appendix A)
• FibreAlliance MIB
â—† Configure network addresses and community names for up to six
SNMP trap recipients.
An SNMP trap recipient is a network management station that
receives messages for specific events that occur on the switch.
â—† Define SNMP community names that SNMP managers use for
reading variables.
â—† Authorize write permissions for writable MIB variables.
The SNMP configuration is stored in NV-RAM on the switch.
SNMP managers may request, but will not receive, traps and SNMP data
through SNMP management stations that are not configured with
community names.
To configure traps and assign community names, follow these steps:
1. Click Configure on the Product Manager menu bar and select
SNMP Agent on the drop-down menu.
This displays the Configure SNMP dialog box (Figure 5-13).
