Chapter 5 Pediatrics and Small Patients
1 Overview
GE Healthcare strongly suggests reducing radiation dose to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably
Achievable) in all patients, especially pediatric and small patients, whenever it is determined
that a CT scan is necessary. CT is an extremely valuable tool for diagnosing injury and disease,
but its use is not without risk. This chapter discusses the importance of minimizing the radiation
dose in small patients and children consistent with ALARA principles.
