Adaptive Gating
A feature used to avoid scanning during the beat immediately after an irregular
(short) beat. The system continuously monitors the R-peak Triggers in real-time.
If the system detects an irregular beat, it pauses to avoid scanning during the subse‐
quent beat. The system then resumes scanning when the ECG trace returns to nor‐
mal.
Arrythmia Retrigger
Enabling this feature causes the system to apply the scan prescription on two nearly
consecutive beats. While doubling the dose, having two acquisitions increases the
chances that at least one of the scans will be diagnostic, allowing use of the same
contrast injection.

5.3 Automatically record the heart rate during breath hold
Auto Gating requires that the heart rate be recorded during a patient breath hold to provide
profile feedback. Use this procedure to automatically record the patient's heart rate and
variability during the Scout, Timing Bolus, Calcium Scoring (Smart Score), or other CT scan
series.
A recording of at least 5 seconds is required to gather enough data to evaluate the heart rate
and variability. The breath hold duration for the scan must be at least as long as the
Breath Hold
Recording Length
setting or the recording will not be used.

3.
From the

window, click the
ECG
tab.
4. In the
Breath Record Length
area, adjust the time. Valid recording lengths are 5–15
seconds.
The system will apply the
Breath Hold Recording Length
time and the AutoVoice message
prescribed in AutoVoice.
If no message is selected, an AutoVoice message will not be played and you will need to
provide manual breathing instructions.
The breathing commands should be the same as those given for the contrast enhanced
scan.
NOTE: The patient’s heart rate is automatically recorded during the Scout, Timing Bolus,
Calcium Scoring (Smart Score), or other CT scan series as long as the scan
duration is at least as long as the breath hold duration.
