6.Removethecotterpinsandslottednutsthatsecurethetierodendstothe
draglinks.Discardthecotterpins.
7.Useasuitabletool(picklefork)toseparatethetierodendsfromthedrag
linksandremovethetierodassembly.
IMPORTANT
On4WDmachines,donotallowtherearwheelspindlesand
hydraulicmotorstohangfromthehydraulichosesunsupported.
8.Removetherearwheelspindlesfromtheaxle.
9.Removethegreasettingfromtheaxlepivotpin.
10.Removethelocknutandthrustthatsecurestheaxlepivotpintotherear
frame.
Note:Severalwashersareinstalledbetweentheaxlepivottubeandtherear
frame.Beforeremovingtheaxlepivotpin,notethelocationofthewashers.
11.Supporttherearaxle,removetheaxlepivotpin,andremovetheaxlefrom
themachine.Locateandretrievethepivotpinthrustwashers.
ServicingtheRearAxle
Therearaxlemustbeheldinplacesnuglybytheaxlepivotpin.Therearwheel
spindlepivotshaftsmusttsnuglyintherearaxle.Excessivemovementofthe
axleintheframe,orthespindlepivotshaftsintheaxle(characterizedbyerratic
steering)mayindicatewornpivotbushings.
1.Removetherearaxlefromthemachine;refertoRemovingtheRearAxle
(page7–16).
2.Thoroughlycleanandinspectalloftherearaxlecomponents.Replaceor
repairwornordamagedcomponentsifnecessary.
3.Useabushingremovaltooltoextractthebushingsfromtherearaxle.T ake
caretonotdamagetheaxleboreduringbushingremoval.Cleantheaxle
boretoremovealldirtandforeignmaterial.
4.Applygreasetotheinsideandoutsideofthenewbushings.Useanarbor
presstoinstallthebushingsintotheaxle.Pressaxlepivotpinbushingsush
withtheaxletube.Pressthewheelspindleshaftbushingsintotheaxleuntil
thebushingangecontactstheaxle.
5.Installtherearaxle;refertoInstallingtheRearAxle(page7–17).
