7.4 Installing Peripheral Devices
This section describes the proper steps and precautions to take when installing or
connecting various peripheral devices to the drive.
Refer to peripheral device manual for detailed installation instructions.
NOTICE: Use a class 2 power supply (UL standard) when connecting to the control terminals.
Improper application of peripheral devices could result in drive performance degradation due
to improper power supply.
Installing a Molded Case Circuit Breaker
Install a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) for line protection between the
power supply and the main circuit power supply input terminals R/L1, S/L2 and
T/L3. This protects the main circuit and devices wired to the main circuit while
also providing overload protection.
Consider the following when selecting and installing a MCCB:
The capacity of the MCCB should be 1.5 to 2 times the rated output current of
the drive.
Select an MCCB with slow time characteristics to prevent:
-Nuisance OL2 tripping and fault detection of the drive.
-Nuisance tripping due to inrush current when applying power to the drive.
Install a 400/200 V transformer when using a 400 V class power supply input.
Try to avoid using several drives connected to one MCCB. If too many drives are
connected to one MCCB, the MCCB rating may be too high to safely trip in case
of a single drive overload or fault.
Installing a Leakage Breaker
Drive outputs generate high-frequency leakage current as a result of high-speed
switching. Install a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) on the input side of the
drive to switch off potentially harmful leakage current.
Factors in determining leakage current:
Size of the AC drive
AC drive carrier frequency
