9.1 Introduction HDF Cold Mirror
Functionality of the Cold Mirror
The location of the C old Mirror in the light path is between the light source (xenon lamp) a nd the light pipe. T he Cold Mirror reflects
the v isible light and abs orbs the infra red light. Due to this absor bing, a lot of heat is produced. T he rear side of the Cold Mirror is
equipped with a c ooling as sembly (h eat sink + fan). The fan below the he at sink blows cold air on the C old M irror and he at sink.
The Cold Mirror has two adjustment screws to modify the position of t he Cold Mirror so that the centre of the light spot is precisely
reflected in the centre of the Integration R od entrance for optimal performance.

Diagnostic
The easiest way to check the condition of the Cold Mirror is by removing the Lamp Hous e. When the Lamp House is removed, the
Cold Mirror becomes visible at the end of the lamp house compartment. In case the Cold Mirror is not dama ged but dirt is clearly
visible upon the surface of the mirror it is recommended to clean the Cold Mirror. Always replace the Cold Mirror with a new one in
case the Cold Mirror is dam aged. Possible damages are:
• Cold M irro r is bro ke n .
• Coating peels off.
• Cold Mirror is cracked.
The light output on the screen will be lower than the normal light output in case of a damaged or dirty Cold
Mirror.
