13. HDF Light Processor
13.1 Introduction HDF Light Processor
Light Processor
The Light Processor is the heart of the projector. The p rism of the Light Processor s plits up t he hom ogeneous white light coming
from the Light Pipe into r ed, green and blue light. T he video information o n t he three DMD ’s is integrated with these red green and
blue light beams. T he prism merges the three integrated light beams back in to one full color video im age, which is projected via
the lens onto the screen.
Each D MD has its own formatting board (satellite board) which drives the micro m irrors to integrate the video signal into the light
beam. A lot of heat is produced during the integration of the video information. To protect the DMD’s for overheating the Light
Processor is equipped with a liquid cooling circuit. Each channel has its own cooling block.
The Light Processor is equipped with 4 temper ature sensors. Each channel has one temperature sen
sor on its coo ling block. Thes e
temperature sensors helps to protect the Light Processor for overheating.
The red and green c hannel are equipped with three e xtended adjustment knobs to conv ergence the DM D with the DMD of the blue
channel which is the reference channel for convergence alignment.
The air gap between the prism and DMD is sealed to protect the DMD’s for dust. It is impor tant to know that a misaligned light path
which reects upon the sealing will damage the sealing very rapidly. At the bottom of the prism exit a “touch” sensor is mounted
to protect t he prism against accidental lens m ovem ents. Note that the Light Processor Unit is equipped with a motorized shutter
(dowser) in front of the pris m exit.
