16. Appendix 4. Summary for cable selection
Controller power supply line (from
PSU to the controller), power
supply lines of locking
mechanisms.
For internal wiring, you can use different cable types, e.g.
flat vinyl-sheath vinyl insulated cord, universal flat flexible
cable, universal flat cable, vinyl-sheath connecting wire, or
flexible vinyl-sheath vinyl insulated power cable (VV-F). For
external wiring, you can use a flexible vinyl-sheath vinyl
insulated power cable (VV-F). The cable cross-section
depends on the length of the power supply line and the
current consumption. As a rule, for lines up to 50 meters
long, it is enough to use a cable with a cross-section of not
less than 1.0 mm². For longer lines, it is recommended to use
cables with a 1.5-2.5 mm² cross-section.
Connecting readers to the
controller
You can use a cable with a 0.4-0.5 mm² cross-section (e.g.,
AWG vinyl sheath cable for transmission systems). "Twisted
pair" cable is not recommended for making connection. At
great distances between readers and the controller, it is
recommended to use larger cables with a 0.75-1.0 mm²
cross-section, when laying reader power supply lines.
Signal lines from sensors to
controllers, as well as control lines
from the controller to actuators.
You can use a cable with a cross-section of at least 0.3 mm
2
and the max length of 50 meters. You may use any type of
transmission cables, such as AWG.
