Exercise Sheet 2-7-4
Adjusting Probe/Needle Distance and GU Stroke Length – HS Series
To adjust the GU stroke length:
1. Using the Z-axis controls, raise the dispensing head so that neither the needle tip nor the
probe tip is touching the work surface.
2. Using a 1/16-inch hex key, loosen the GU adjust locking screw (See Diagram Sheet 2-7-4
on page 2-2-55) by turning it only two revolutions to the left, approximately 0.79 mm
(9.03 in.).
3. Using a 1/16-inch hex key, turn the GU adjust screw to adjust the GU stroke length.
 Typical setting is where the length of the probe after the bend is the same distance as
the tip of the probe is from the needle tip.
4. To reduce the stroke length, turn the GU adjust screw to the left.
5. To increase the stroke length, turn the GU adjust screw to the right.
6. Perform a height sensor test.
 In FmNT, click on Tools in the Main Window, then click on I/O Test and click on
Dispenser.
 Locate the I/O bit labeled HS_PROBE1_UP/ and toggle the bit ON (1) and OFF (0) to
raise and lower the probe. (For more information on Dispenser 1/0, see Section 4-13
Testing the I/O Functions of the Dispenser and Conveyor).
7. When you are satisfied with the settings, tighten the GU adjust screw by turning it two
full revolutions to the right.
8. Run the Height Sensor Setup Procedure (See Exercise Sheet 2-7-1 on page 2-2-48).
