Agilent 5DX Service Guide 5-33
5DX Series 3 Motion Control Assembly
Each Servo Module includes a set of relays that are used to enable or disable the
motor associated with the module. The relays are controlled by the Motion Enable
Control. In the event of an XYZ Stage fault, the relay will open and the motors will
be disabled until the issue is resolved or the system is reset. This will prevent
unnecessary damage to the XYZ Stage. See Motion Controller PCI Cards on
page 5-38 for more information.
All replacement Servo Modules will be sent from the factory unprogrammed. The
Servo Module must be programmed after it is installed. A module can be
reprogrammed for troubleshooting purposes. For information on programming
Servo Modules, see the Repair and Replace Procedure in the 5DX Service Quick
Reference Guide.
Backplane
The Backplane provides the interconnections for the modules contained in the
Motion Control Assembly while the actual Motion Controller PCI cards are
located in the Expansion Chassis. These interconnections include motor power,
encoder and limit switch feedback and motion enable.
Automatic Width Adjust (AWA) and Z-Axis Stepper Drivers
The Stepper Drivers are located on the Motor Relay Control/Stepper Module. The
Stepper Drivers are interchangeable. This can be useful for troubleshooting
purposes.
