5-38 Panel Handling Subsystem
Motion Controller PCI Cards 5DX Series 3
Motion Controller PCI Cards
The Motion Controller PCI cards provide the control signals for the Servo
Modules for the purpose of panel positioning in the X-Axis, Y-Axis and Z-Axis
directions. There are two Motion Controllers (Motion Controller PCI 1 and Motion
Controller PCI 2) that are located in the Expansion Chassis within the Electronics
Bay. Figure 5-20 graphically represents the functionality and relationships of each
controllers.
Figure 5-20: Output from the Motion Controller PCI cards
Motion Controller PCI 1
The Motion Controller PCI 1 provides commands from the System Controller to
the X Servo Module, Y1 Servo Module, Y2 Servo Module, and Z Stepper Driver
as shown in Figure 5-20.
X-Axis control
There is one X-Axis servo motor. It is driven by a single Servo Module. The Servo
Module is controlled by a single channel on Motion Controller PCI #1. The X-
Axis operates in a closed-loop mode as shown in Figure 5-21. Position feedback is
provided by an incremental encoder that is attached to the X-Axis servo motor and
two limit switches.
