3-2 Safety Interlock Subsystem
Overview 5DX Series 3
Overview
The Safety Interlock Subsystem provides the Agilent 5DX System with an
automated integral security system, designed to safeguard personnel from
accidental exposure to X-rays, laser light emissions and mechanical operations.
The Safety Interlock Subsystem is comprised of the following components:
• Safety Interlock Controller — Serves as the interface between the safety
interlocks, the X-ray High Voltage Power Controller, the Operator Control
Console, the Laser Enable circuit and the Motion Enable circuit.
• Safety Interlocks — Each safety interlock consists of at least one switch for
Chain 1 and one switch for Chain 2.
• Chain 1 — Provides the interlock control for the X-ray High Voltage Power
Controller, the enable for the Laser(s), and the enable for the Motion Drivers.
• Chain 2 — Provides the enable for the X-ray High Voltage Power Controller.
• X-ray Tube Dielectric Pressure Sensor — Detects low dielectric pressure (less
than 40psi) inside the X-ray Tube Pressure Vessel and is in series with Chain 1.
• Operator Control Console — Controls the X-ray High Voltage Power
Controller and provides the indications for X-ray On and Interlocks
Closed/Laser On. The control console is located on the main cabinet on the
mobile workstation table.
• X-ray High Voltage Power Controller — Controls power and provides fault
protection for the electronic assemblies of the X-ray Tube.
